Good Samaritan Helps Rescue Child From Burning Car in Beaumont, Texas

A frightening roadside emergency in Beaumont, Texas, became an incredible story of courage when a Good Samaritan and a police officer worked together to rescue a child and driver from a burning vehicle.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, Beaumont police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2100 block of South Major Drive.

According to information provided by Beaumont Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Haley Morrow, the driver experienced a medical emergency that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and enter a wooded area.

When officers arrived, the vehicle’s engine compartment was on fire. A bystander who witnessed the crash was already reaching through a broken rear window and attempting to free a child trapped in a car seat.

The responding officer provided the Good Samaritan with a knife, allowing him to cut through the car-seat straps. Together, they pulled the child safely through the rear window.

The officer then broke the driver’s-side window and rescued the adult inside.

Beaumont Fire-Rescue extinguished the flames, and both the driver and child were transported to a local hospital with no apparent injuries reported.

The Beaumont Police Department publicly praised the unidentified Good Samaritan for stepping forward and responding without hesitation.

We may not know his name, but we know what he did.
